CAMBRIDGE RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT. Tuesday.— (Before Major Wilson and Mr W. N. Searancke, J.P.)
Taking a Ring. A man* named James Troy, a new arrival in the district, was brought before the court on Tuesday morning, charged with taking a ring from the shop of Mr R. W. Sargent, jeweller, and refusing to pay for it. The circumstances wore that the accused ontciod Mr Sargent's shop during his absence and procured the riug from the boy, walked out, and lefused to pay for it. He subsequently offered it for sale. The charge being proved, a sentence of one month was inflicted. The same person was charged with an assault on his late employer, Henry Brennan. On thi» charge lie was fined 40s with 25)s costs, or 14 days. Imprisonment preferred.
Drunkenness. A tailor named Alexander Hewitt McKenzie made his bow to the bunch on the above charge. Fined 3s, or 24 homy.
