WELLINGTON, Friday.

Dr Hector's repoit on the Mak.ua gold goes distinctly in favour of Walker's contention that the cake of gold exhibited as the lesult of the recent ciushiiig at the Thames did not come fiom the Makara ; the value of gold obtained from recent testing being £3 11s lid, while that which was obtained at the Thames ci ushing was only worth £2 13s lid. From analysis Dr Hector made of the samples iccently obtained at the Makaia claim, it contains nine per cent of siher, but the sample clipped from the bar which was obtained from the Thames crushing contains 32 percent., which is the proportion that usually characterises gold obtained at the Thames. Six of the female nurses at the hospital have sent in their resignations on the ground that they deem Dr. Hammond to nave retired under compulsion, to have been unfairly treated both by the Government and by the honorary medical staff, in being practically arraigned on a charge of ho vague and general a nature ax that of "Harshness of demeanour," which, moreover, they declared to be enthely unfounded. They, on their part, demand an enquiry into tlie management and the evidence in favour of Dr. Hammond, and against the conduct of the honorary staff.
