A. Tir.u\ w.Vs chaiged on the information of the ])(>lice with having, on the !>th in*t., stolon a watch fiom tho racecourse, the propei ty of E. Favroll, and valued at £4 ; also, with having, on tho 3id inst., .stolon a mackintosh co.it from the Tamahoie Hotel. The prisoner pleaded guilty to both charges. The ciicmnstances of the case were that the prisoner was coming up to Cambridge on the 3id ii^t,, and called at Camp's. Tcimahere Hotel. While theie he took the coat refeiied to in the charge, and brought it with him to Cambridge. On the !)th inst. he was ai rested for stealing a watch at the racecourse, and shoitly aftoi his arrest the coat wa-. discovered ni his swag. On being questioned, he said he had bought tne coat in a paw nshop at Auckland, and had aKo bought the watch theie. PiHoner was sentence^ to t>i\ months' liaid labour on each chaige, theie being several provioiih conviction* against him. Several cnil cases weie disposed of.
