BEE CULTURE IN THE WAIKATO.

Duking the past year Messrs Karl Bros., of Ohaupo, have made extensive additions to their apiary, having constructed during the winter months nearly 280 hives, besides making several impiovements to the grounds. Up to the end of last week, the season was not veiy favouiablc, as instead of extracting as they were this time last year, they have been obliged to feed, owing no doubt in a great measure to the unfavourable weather experienced during the past two mouths. However, they expect to commence work .shortly, and anticipate a good season. Latit year the yield was between four and five tons ; this season they expect 10 tons. In front of their residence they have erected an observatory hive, so that visitors can at once see the bees at work, and to anyone who takes an interest in the industry, it is a sight well worth .seeing. Queen rearing is proceeding slowly, .still the hives are strong. Messrs Karl Bros, have pin chased between 14 and 15 acres adjoining their farm, which they intend laying down in buck wheat, which is an excellent honey producing plant. It is only a few years since the firm turned their attention to bee culture, and trom the rapid strides they have made, they deserve the thanks of the community for their enterprise in starting such a profitable industry m the Waikato.

The Sydney Town and Country Journal notices two hives of Italian boes which were being forwarded to Mr Hopkins, of Matamata. Our contemporary trusts Mr Hopkins will derive as much satisfaction from the Italian bees as they are giving in Australia.
