CAMBRIDGE JOCKEY CLUB. SPRING MEETING.
T\n spring meeting of the above clulj^ which dimes off ou Wednesday, tlie 2l.s^| mst., )»<>mises to be one of the best meet- J ing» Waikato settleis have ever had. It is now some time since we have had a race meeting in Waikato, and as the Cambridge club is at present the only one extant m the district, if we exclude that of Piako, race meeting-* aj c not so frequent as we have hither to had them, consequently as the bin den of supporting two clubs is not now felt, it is reasonable to expect that this yeai 's meeting 1 of the Cambridge club will be unpi eoedentedly successful. The meeting on the 21st consists of six events, including a cup of oOsovs., and a steeplechase of 30sovs. There aie, at the present time, no fewer than fourteen or fifteen hoises in training \n the Cambridge district alone, together with about six or seven at Te Aroha, and several in the Te Awamutu district, all of which are pxpectud to enter for the Cambridge meeting. We are glad to notice that Dr. Waddington'?, filly " Linda," half sister to MartiniHenry, is under T. Hodson's training, and has come on wondei fully well. The coui-hO now presents quite a busy appearance every* „ morning with competitors doing their morning gallops. Owners of horses aye reminded that the entries for the coining Meeting close on Monday, the 12kh mat., with the secietary at Cambridge, and Mr Peiciv«d, handicapper, Auckland. With good weather, we hope to see a very enjoyable and successful day'b racing.
A " sweet girl -graduate " wrote tbj^ following on the fly-leaf of her text-boor^i on moral science : "If" there should be another flood, For refuge hither fly : Though all the world should be submerged. This book will still be dry." "Polly," said a lady to her servant, "I wish yon would step over and see how old Mrs. Joues is this morning." " In a few minutes Polly returned with the information that Mrs 1 Jones was seventy* ; two' years, four mouths, and twenty t^v eight dayaioM. '„•;,-',' - v ? |
