Mnr.HOUHNT,, October 13. The Aigus to-day publishes .1 tolegiam fioni Captain Annit announcing bis return from New Guinea ill w ith fever, and with all but one of his jiaity Miffenng. Piofessor Denton, he states, died from exhaustion after a severe attack of fever.
Irish Agricultural Statistics.— The complete agricultural statistics for 1882 were issued during the last week in July. They show that the total area under crop, including meadow and clover, was 20,228,753 acres, showing a decrease of 114,930 acres, while there is an increase of 296 acres under wood and plantations, of 61 acres under fallow, of 79,451 acres under waste and water, and of 34,291 under grass. Of the 4,787,528 acres given as under bog, waste, water, &c, 1,518,457 acres were under bog and marsh, 2,095,812 acres barren mountain land, and 873,220 water, roads, fences, &c. From the table giving the area and proportionate extent of each crop in 1881 and 1882 it appears that in the crops of IRB2, compared with those of ISSI, there is a decrease in cereals of 20,438 acres, wheat having decreased by 970 acres, and barley by 22,539 acres, while oats increased by 3995 acres, and here and rye by 74 acres. In green crops there is a total decrease of 21,063 acres, potatoes having decreased by 17,475 against an increase of 34,642 acres in the previous year, mangel wurzel and beetroot by 8522 acres, vetches and rape by 1630 acres, turnips by 1142 acres, and carrots, parsnips and other green crops by 738 ; while cabbags increased by 8314 acres. Compared with 1881, bog and waste apto have increased 95.461 and barren mountain land 21,860 acres, and water, roads, fences, &c, 2880 acres. The number of separate holdings is, 74,207, being 3532 less than in the previous year. The returns of live stock show a decrease of 8889 horses, an increase of 68 mules, an increase of 30,616 cattle, a decrease of 184,430 sheep, an in.crea.se of {$4,298 pigs, a decrease of 3809 goats, and an increase of 26,670 in poultry.
