OUR RAILWAY WORKS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — Now that the Hamilton railway blidge is .said to be at last finished, biirely upon the numerous assurances and promises made by members of the Government and M.H.K.'s fioin Piemieis downwards, " That as soon as the bridge was completed, the tenders for the immediate completion of the l.ulway.s to the Thames and Cambudgo would be advertised, and the work pi osecutcd with all expedition," we might expect to see some action to carry out these pi omises if they aie to be regarded as worth anything, and they ought to be for aie not our nilei^ " .ill honourable men? ' and biirely it cannot be that the rapid completion of the Hamilton bridge h.is taken them by .suipri.se. As a matter of fact. I leai n that enough mateiial is lying at Hamilton to complete the railway to Cambridge, and to the Piako river, and in siv weeks private companies would have it used, and the lines open, and earning a return, and meeting public convenience, and even the Government might, by a very oidinary amount of diligence, have it open shortly after Chii^tmas. It can only be mismanaging uicompotency, m an utter disiegaid foi the interests of this piovince that can cause further delay, depuving the public of conveniences essential to piogiess and piospeuty, and keeping woilcs and material wasting, which we have paid foi, instead of earning something to meet the heavy chaiges for loans. Possibly the Government may regard our Waikato M.H. l< s such loyal suppoiteis, and so longsuffewng that they can tufle at pleasure witli our lights and interest I*,1 *, but if our Menibei-j lemam passive supporters, notwithstanding, Ministers may not find the electors so at ne\t election. — I am, &c, Wm. Ahch. Muhh.vy. Piako, October 15, 1883.
