To piove the falsity of this asseition, tho above-named chief is visiting vai ions tribes inteie&ted in the l)lock, and obtaining the signatuies of those willing to place themselves under his influence. At piesent 800 have signed. Another incentive to action is the countei petition of Tawhiao, lately foi warded to the two Houses, and Wahanui intends to prove indubitably that his " mana" ib more extended, and his influence gie.itei than that of Tawhiao. The relations between the latter potentate and ln&eistwhile councilloi aie, to s.iy the least of it, shamed, and Wahanui, it is said, has given Ta-whiao notice to quit the Ngatimaniapoto ternary."
