A young man named James Hammond, engaged as a clerk in Messrs W. and G. Turnbull and Co.'s store, has been arrested on a charge of forging the signature of Mr Nicholas Eeid, the manager of the firm, to a cheque for £20. The Government steamer Hinemoa left here this afternoon for Kawhia with a detachment of Armed Constabulary. She calls at Opunake in the morning for the purpose of taking on board a number of A.C. from there. At the Supreme Court, Win. Saath, for larcency, got six months, and Job Littler, larcency from the person, 12 months.
