Hamilton Colts v. Cambridge Colts.

Thi: return match between the above teams came off on Saturday last at the Government paddock, Cambridge, and 1 exulted in a draw, thus leaving the Hamiltonians victorious for this year, they having won the previous match*. Mr Franklyu captained the Cambridge team, and Mr J. Aitken performed a like duty for the Hamilton colt->. The respective players were :—: — Cambridge— Franklyn, Paltiidge, Hannon, Carnachan, Carr, Wilson, Caiter, Keeley, C. Odium, Keeley, Moirisy, Pearson, Breakell, Hughes, McCann, and D. Camachan. Hamilton— Aitken, Somers, Davis, Palmer, Gwynne, Alhight (2), Mayes, McKenzie, Devitt, Jones, W. Odium, Calderwood, Cassidy and Martin. Wilson kicked of for Cambridge at 3 o'clock, and the ball was quickly returned into the Cambridge twenty-five, where it was kept until tlie latter were compelled to force down. Throughout the match the game was evenly contested, though whatever slight advantage there existed was in favour of Hamilton, the Cambridgo players being compelled to touch down in self-defence five times, while Hamilton had to do ditto thiice. Once it seemed as if Hamilton were going to score when one of their men crossed the Cambridge goal line in company with one of the lattm-'s players, both holding the ball between them ; but the maul-in-goal that would have ensued was disallowed by the Cambridge umpire, and no score resulted. The back play on both sides was rather weak, the Hamilton team greatly missing their half-back and former captain, Yon Stunner, who was unable to be there. Among the Cambridge players who distinguished themselves by their good play inthe match were Franklyn, Odium, Wilson, Carnachan, Harman, and Breakell (although the latter had to be called back very often for picking up in the scrimmages). For Hamilton, among those who were conspicuous by their good play, we may mention Odium, T. and G. AUwright, Devitt, Aitkin, McKenzie, Gwynne, and Palmer. Seigt. C4iey and Mr Pilling performed the thankless task of umpires for the respective teams. In the evening the visitors were enteTtained by the local team at a dinner in the National Hotel.
