MAJOR TE WHEORO'S MISSION.
So far a>. we can learn, the natives of the vauous .settlement-, that have hion vibitcd by Major Te Wheoro, and wh . nave re coived fioin the gallant M.H.11. in interpi etation of Mi Bryce's new Native Land Act are very well pleaded with the piotoction which it is said to afford thsm an their dealings with Euio))eau Companies and indh uluals in the dispo»al and regulation of their laiid-s. At the inwtnsgs which the Majoi li.ii called, he has expounded the law with immeasurable gusto ; and deninnstiatud to hir> cni.sfcitu touts tlie finite which Ins parliamentary eftoiti on their behalf haveb.nne. Again, the natives, during the hearing of their cases before the Lands Court, will experience great difficulty in keeping up a supply of rations to last them through the sitting, for assuredly their credit with the business people will henceforth be exceedingly limited. We do not wish it to be understood that these matters are quoted as indicating any serious fault in the act, for those are only things of detail, and of every day occurrence. Major Te Wheoro, during his expedition, will visit all the principal centres of Maori population, including Whatawhatihoe, Kawhia, Raglan, Waotu, and others, expounding the law as he proceeds.
