KIHIKIHI.

A very pleasant quadrille jkrty was held here on .Friday evening. - It was got up by some of th-i gentleman * residing in the township. Invitations were sent round the country, and fully one hundred ladies and gentlemen* attended. Mr Gr. Wilkinson made a very -efficient M.C. and hon. secretary to the committee. Supper \v«w provided by Messrs Walker (of Te Awamutu), aud Stone, (of Kihikihi). Dancing was kept up till 5 a.m. The guests went home nighly pleased with their night's amusement, and the courtesy extended to them by the hosts. The road^ are once more in a passable condition, and it is to be hoped the council will do something during the summer to put them m a good state of repair for next winter. A few pounds spent in making drains would materially improve the worst spots. In spite of the general dulness, business, in tin's place is pretty brisk, aud likely to continue so. Building sites continue to maintain their value and are in demand. There i^> no doubt there is a grand future m store for Kihikihi. When the native country is thrown open to Europeau settlement, all traffic from a very large district must pass through this placo, which will make it a town of considerable impoitance. The accomodation for visitors is excellent. The hotels aie good, and there are two coaches running daily to and from Te Awamutu. Mr Wilkinson's Star Hotel is rapidly approaching completion, and when finished will be an ornament to the place, as it is exceedingly well planned. The landlords of the various hotels have provided suitable accomodation for the officials of the Land Court. The constabulary stationed hero have been busy improving the streets and footpaths, so that when summer conies Kihiwill present a very neat appearance. — (Own Correspondent.)
