Therk are very few alterations in the maiket pncea for produce during tiie week. Butter is now quoted at,ls wholesale, and Is 3d retail ; eggs, 8d per doz. wholesale, and lOd retail. The gum market continues quiet with no change in the value. The receipts for September amount to about 180 tons. Maize has declined, and may be quoted at 2a lOd to 3s. .Southern flour appears to Lave a downward tendency, being now worth £11 to £12 a ton.
Narrow Escape. Captain Haultain, of the ketch Reliance, was knocked over-hoard at Whangarei Heads, and struck out for the shore three miles off. He was three and ci-half hours battling against the heavy sea, and reached the shore safely in an exhausted condition. He is a son of Colonel Haultain.
The Doric. There is no sign of the Doric from London.
On 'Change. Sales, to-day : Imperials, 38s 6cl to 38s Od; Werahiko, 53; Premier 18s; Lucky Hit, 3s to 2s lid. Buyers /pAyk lOd. Sellers : Darts, 7s; Hau^o 3s 3d; Queen of Beauty, 7s ; 13s.
Board of Education. The Board of Education to-day dismissed Mr Brown, teacher of the Wellesley-street school, for drunkenness. Mr Goldie said Mr Brown was a teetotaller till he lodged at a public house at Ohaupo. He believed other teachers had been led into drinking habits from similar causes.
