" Beib Sir. — Being out of town yesterday, I could not answer yours of the 10th instant until this morning, but trust that you will receive it in time for '-v.to-day's mail. My fee for reporting on the/ adaptability of the samples of material, which may be sent me for the manufacture of Portland cement, would be twenty-five guineas in addition to the expense of analysis (the cost of analysis is from two to three guineas each sample.) Of course, if the materials prove suitable, and it is decided to erect works, then, on receipt of the plan of the intended site, I .shall be glad to design suitable works, on the ordinary scale of charges, viz., 2\ per cent, on their cost ; but I would not, I think, undertake a journey to New Zealand.— Trusting to see you before you leave, I am, &c., " (Signed) Henry Faija.
