HA MILTO N CHORA L SOCIETY.
The first concert of the season came off in the Public Hall, Hamilton, in aid of the building fund of the hall last night. There was a fairly large and thoroughly appreciative audience, and the concert, taken as a whole, was a success. Pressure on our space forbids our giving more than a very brief notice, but we cannot forbear saying a word in praise of the chorus sm«ing, which, thanks to the care of the popular conductor, Mr Bell, was exceptionally good, considering the youth of the society. The solos, instrumental and vocal, were much above the average. Among the latter, those by Miss M. MoPherson and Mr Burnnnd pleased the audience most, both performers having to submit to an encorr. Mrs Murray and Mr Napper also had to submit to a unanimous recall for their rendering of the I duet "Love and Pride." The String J | Band was in capital form, and were loudly applauded "for their efforts. Miss Newell played the pianoforte accompaniments most efficiently, and to this lady much ol the success of the choruses is due.
