DELAYS ARE DANGEROUS.
TO TUB EDITOR. Sir.— "At the last monthly meeting of the Waikato County Council the Engineer Mr Sandes, wished for authority to > call tenders 'immediately for rebuilding the bridges on the main load between this place and Ranghiri. Our councillor, , Mr Johnstone, wished this cobedore, but Councillor Wells, of Cambridge, who evidently knows nil about these affairs, bo successfully opposed the suggestion that the calling for tenders was post- • poned for another month. The Engineer stated that he would not be icsponsilile for any accident that might happen, as the bridges were absolutely unsafe for even light ttaflic. The sapient Cambridge councillor, however, talked auay until he gained his point and got things put off another month, and now what has been the result ? One of the bi idges has broken down, being completely rotten, and a lifs was very nearly lost. Had the 1 driver of the trap being di owned I wonder what would have been Councillor Wells' feelings when he remembered that he pooh-poohed the idea of any immediate action.— l am &c. A XTI-BoMBAST. Hiuitly, August 24th 1883.
