Paris, August 22. LiTEST despatches to hand from Tonquin state that the Fiench troops continue their operations against the Annamites, and have met with further success. Haiphong was captured, with a loss of only fifteen lulled and fifty wounded, but was subsequently evacuated. The loss on the enemy's side has not been ascertained, but it is stated to be much larger. A special to the Press Association says :— Further news fiom Tonquin states that 2000 of the Hanoi garrison, advancing on Sontag, a&saulted the Annamite position, and were thrice repulsed. The centre column was partly successful, but the right ami left columns, after protracted lighting, retreated. The French loss was two officers and fifteen men killed, and seventy wounded. The enemy's loss was light. The country is inundated and the French are depressed. Intelligence has been received from Tonquin that the French troops have attacked and captured the town of Haiphong, and the Annainite force which defended the place fled.
