POSTAL DELIVERY, HAMILTON AND CAMBRIDGE.
As already reported, the deliveiy of lettois commenced at ITamiltunand Oambrnlge on Monday, and is likely to pio\c a great boon to the residents. The tol lowing regulations relating to 'otterearners will be of interest :—: — Letter-carriers and messengers are prohibited from distributing any letteis, newspapers, &c, except such as h.i\e to addresses ; nor are they allowed to depassed tin (nigh a Pust Office. Tliey aie not .allowed to deliver iv the street or elsewhere except places of business, even liver unJer doors. They ate not allowed to receive any payment beyond the postage for the delneiy or collection of any letter or newspaper, or to deviate from the route laid down for them. The piohibition, howc\cr, fiom leeeivmg payment in addition to the postage does not extend to Christmas gratuities. No poison living within the town free delheiy can claim to have his letteis delivered at the office if a deliveiy l)y letter-carrier is about to take place ; but letters which anive by a mail, after which theio is no immediate deliveiy by letter-can ier, may be obtained by any person on application at the office, so long as it is open {or delivery. lleceipts must be given tor al! registeied articles on delivery theieof. Lotteia addic^sfd to the Post Office, or to be kept till called foi, may be obtained at the office, except w here it is ascertained that it is the puioticc of pei&ona li\ ing within the town deliveiy to have their letteis to addressed, in which ca^e they will be sent out by the letterearner. Letteis for pel sons residing beyond any official delivery will be delivered op application at the office. It is not peitnitt<-d to leturn any letter to the wnter or sender, or to anyone else, or to delay foi warding it to its destina tion according to the address, even though a request to such eflect bo written theieon (except under the provisions for special icquest), as every letter must be delivered to the peison to whom it is originally directed, and to him a'onc. No information must be given by a postal officer respecting letters, &c, which pass thiough a Post Office, c\cept to the peisons to whom they arc addressed.
