Alexandria, August 20. T HE latpst reports from Cairo state that cholera has now entirely ceased in thnt city. The epidemic is decreasing here and i» tbo provinces, and it 13 hoped that the further spread ot tlie plague has been stayed.
London, August 20. A disturbance took place to-day at Down, Ireland, at an eviction of tenants. A body of policemen escorted the process-server, and were attacked by the sympathisers of tho tenants, ami,, in a fight which ensued, two of the policemen were shot and seriously wounded. The French Government informed Earl Granvillt? the Foreign Secretary, that Mr Shaw, the British missionary as Tatnatave. is now on board the French, ironclad, and that he will be dealt with according to martial law, but be allowed the right of appeal. A Tarnellite named Lynch has been elected to the House of Commons for County Sligo, in the room of the late Denis O'Connor. The Tory candidate who opposed Lynch was defeated by a large majority.
August 21. Continuous rioting, lasting many hours, has taken place between Catholics and Protestants at Coatbridge, a town nine miles f1 om Glasgow, ami the centrp of the Lanarkshire mining district. Many persons havo been i'ljured on both sides. v
