Mining. Tiik unsettled, weather has retarded operations on the tramway during the last week, Imt considci able piogiebb hu& been made. The rails aic laid in the May Queen Spur, and as far as the Inverness on the second grade, and a commencement ia to be made to-day in laying the 1 ails on the Premier giadc. Another few weeks of fine weather, and the work of laying and ballasting the whole ot the line will be completed. PutMihß Mink. — The show of gold coming to hand from the No. 2 leef is first-class. Large blocks of the quartz, when broken, have got dabs of gold on almost every one of the pieces, and when crushed at the mill will yield a rich leturn. Colonist. — There is not much headway made in carrying on the works. The show is really good, and no time should now be lost in having everything ready to send aw ay quartz. Ixvkkxkps. — The show of rich gold still continues in the reef at the low level, and if no hindrance occurs, it is expected that the first ciushing of five tons will be got to the mill in a week. Waiokongoiai Co. — The reef cut near the Inverness boundary is shewing <_,old in payable quantities in driving both ways from the cross-out. Lucky Hit.— A crushing of 5 tons of quartz has been completed at the Thames for a satisfactory return of ISoz. retorted gold. F. Claim. — A trial crushing of a few tons of quartz from this mine is to be sent to the mill at the same time as the Inverness quartz is taken clown. Youxu Caledonian. — A fair show of gold in the stone is still seen in the quartz coming to hand. Wgi^AJijKO.— Rising and stoping on the reef i& going on, and lich stone is frequently seen, while the quartz is being broken down. Eureka. — Rising and sinking are both carried on, the quartz from the winze is improv ing in appearance, and looks better than any yet broken in the mine, in the rise a fair show is also seen. PnoiNix, which lies between the Inverness and the F. claim, are still getting gold in the leader at the tramway. May Queen. — Some very fair stone in a reef lately opened. The Chance, Phoenix, Vermont, and several other claims are being put into the market, and companies formed to develppp the ground.
