THE SESTHETIC MINSTRELS.

The members of this troupe gave a very successful performance at the Public Hall, Cambridge, on Tuesday evening. There was an excellent house in point of numbers, but, unfortunately, it included a goodly proportion of larnkin3, who, whether they enjoyed the performance themselves or not, were determined, if possibletominiinisethepleasureofthe respec'able people present. It is a great pity the police do not make an example of some of these youths. It is simply astonishing that in the comparatively small towns of Waikato such conduct as that to which we are compelled to direct attention is put up With. The /Esthetics have greatly improved since their initial performance at Hamilton, and the music, vocal and instrumental, was rendered much more smoothly on Tuesday night. The chorus singing was especially good, when it is considered that the music had to be learned off by heart, a feat not easy of accomplishment by amateurs. The vocal solos were well received, and Mr Holloway was rapturously encored for " The Nasty Organ Man." The symphonies were again weak, and were by no means improved by the somewhat erratic tambourine obligato. The " funny" instruments, if we may so designate the bones and tambourine, are altogether out of place in the music of such songs as " The little one that died," or "Sweet Chiming Bells," however appropiiate they may be i» the play>ng of " Kingdom Coming " or " Massa sent a Jellygramme." The joke« were vastly superior to those dispensed at Hamilton, and on the whole the first part of the programme went very evenly. The feature of the second part was the duet "Larboard Watch " by Messrs Wright and Trcwheellar. The latter was not nearly so happy in "Boyal Bine," and Mr Ivy, although he got fairly well through " This Old Flag," came ignominiotisly to grivjf in negotiating the "top note " at the close. The farce " Uncle Ebenezcr's Visit to New York," which was productive of roars of laughter trom beginning to end, brought a most enjoyable entertainment to a close. The iEsthetic Minstrels will appear tomorrow evening at Ngsmiawahva, whuti the same programme will be given. W« can promise our friends at the bottom of the Delta a thorough treat. . -
