The Annexation Question." "( London, July 19. The hon. Evelyn N. '. Ashley, Undersecretary for the Colonies, in the House of Commons, to-day, in reply to a question, that,, Sir jThpmas Mcllwraith, Premier of Queensland, had telegraphed to the Colonial Office .that (Strong i discontent prevailed in the colony at the decision arrived at by the Imperial Government on the question of the proposed annexation of New Guinea. Mr Ashley added that Government still considered the proposal premature.

The cargo of frozen mutton, consisting of 5769 carcases, in the steamship British Queen from Lyttelton has arrived, in excellent condition. A portion was placed on the market to-day, and realised an average of sevenpence per pound. '
