INVERCARGILL, Last Night.
When the Dunedin express had gone a short distance oat of town to-ilay, a man named Charles Lewis, said to be ot unsound mind, threw himself across the line as the train approached. Every effort was made to stop the engine, but Lewis was caught by the cow-catcher, and dragged a considerable distance. He was conveyed to the hospital, when it was found he had received a contused wound on the back of his head, not considered dangerous. John Eastwood was committed for trial for stealing £40 from Neil McNeill while the latter was drunk.
