Melbourne, July 14, A telegram has been received announcing the arrival of the steamship Austral; all well, at Rio de Janeiro on the 12th instant. She put in to replenish her supply of coals. [Received July 16, 12.45 p.m.] Melbourne, Yesterday. Mr Service, the Premier, has received a telegram from the Associated Chambers of Commerce iv Great 'Britain that in their opinion the agreement recently concluded between the Government and Count cle Lesseps for the construction of a second Suez canal will hamper Australian trade for the next fifty years. Mr James Service, as Colonial Treasurer, will probably make his financial statement on Wednesday next.
