CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night.
For selling milk adulterated with water a man to-day wag fined two guineas, with one guinea costs. In the Supreme Court P. H. Rhodes sued the Union Insurance Company for £1000, the amount of the policy on the Somerset Hotel at Akaroa, burnt last August. Defendant pleaded breaches of covenant. Rhodes, being only mortgagee, and contended he was not affected by the breaches. After the evidence, the case was withdrawn from the jury, and left to the judge to draw inferences from facts, and decide, after argument, on law points.
