Lokdox, July 2. Ix the House of Coinnv>ns to-day Mr Gladstone, in replying to a question, announced that thu despatch, replying to the application of the Queensland Government for the .innovation of New Guinpa, was ucarly re uly for transmission. The despatch, the Premier stated, would refuse to confirm the action of the Coloni.il Gc>\ eminent, which, moreover, was null and void in point of law, and unwarranted in the circumstances of the case. As icgaids the policy of annexation, the Government considered that the colony was un&uited to hold such functions, and annexation by a Foreign Power was not feared. Mr Gladstone concluded by stating that it was, however, intended to sticugbhen the hands of the Government of Queensland with regard to the maintenance of a police service on the Australian seas.
