Sir George Giey gave notice to move in committee, " That a sum be placed on the estimates ioi the purpose of constructing a line of lailway fiotn Christchurch to the West Coast.'' Mr Htifi>thoti&e moved for leave to introduce the Auckland University College Repeal Bill. The House divided. Ayes, 24 ; Noes, 33 Mr Beetham moved, " That in the opinion of the House, action should lie taken in conjunction with the other colonies to obtain a fair representation of the colonies in the linpenal Pailiamcnt.'" After some discuasion the debate was adjourned. A motion by Mr Cadman, in the direction of yetting bills, circulated within the colony one month before being discussed by Parliament was lost on the voices. Mr M. W. Green moved the second leading of the Moral Training in Schools Bill, the title of which he asked leave to change to the Bible Heading in Schools Bill. He spoke at some length in support of the bill, arguing that the want of reverence and punciple noticeable in the youth ot the present day was attiibutabl'e to the absence of bible reading in the schools. Messis Rolleston, Montgomery, Iltirsthouse, de Lautour, Fergus, Sutton, Lovi stam, and others opposed, and Messis Postlethwaiti 1 . Macandrew, Fulton, Bathgate and Dick supported the bill, which was, on a division, thrown out by d' 2 to 16.
