PARLIAMENTARY NOTES. [BY TELEGRAPH.-SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.]

Wkivtj.mjtox, Last Night. A. mketivu of x^oitlicin members, con-vem-d Ivy Mi Dai "aville the other day, >c the llotoriiri Railway, has eieated sonic discussion ,md n good deal of comment. Tlio membets pieoi'iit wuic, Mcssis Wliytc, Cadiunn, Tole, Harris, McDonald. Gooi ge,Daigavillcand Mon i-ifiom the pioviuceof Auckland, and Messis Buchanan, .Smith and Sutton irom Hawke's Bay. Mi Daigaville ■\\a--> voted to the chan, and resolutions expressing " that in the opinion of the meeting it is deshaUe that the construction ol the tailway should be pushed on nnm°diately ;" aloo expi easing 1 egret at the absence of other Auckland members from the meeting wcie passed. At that stage Messis Whytc and Swanson am vert, ami the above lesulutions weie lead to them. They explained that the ,'ibsence of Messrs Hurst, Peacock and Mitchelson was owmg to the fact that they had been and weic doing their best to bring about the end desired, with e\cry prospect of success ; and that they thought a meeting of Xorthein membeis unadvisable at the present juncture. In iact they thought such a meeting would do more harm than good. They also stated that this opinion had been expiessed to Mr Dargaville, who nevertheless chose to call the meeting upon his own responsibility. After this Mr McDonald moved, "That a deputation interview the Govtrnment in order to ask if they would alter the boundaries of the area included under the Thermal Springs Act, so as to enable the company to complete the line, and that the chairman be authoiised to take any steps he may think necessary." This was objected to by Mr Whyte, because the first part of it would be futile and end in a simple negative, and the second part conferred too much discretionary power on the chairman. Mr Swanson and others supported these objections. As it became appaientthat the meeting was notunanimous as to any definite line of action for the present, it was proposed by Mr Sutton, and carried, "That the meeting be adjourned, and that the cliairman be requested to call another meeting within ten days." Thus the meeting ended in what is generally called a "fizzle," which was precisely what might have been expected, as it was from first to last simply the outcome of Mr Dargaville's ambition to take the apparent lead in spite of the advice of others, and careless ot the bad effsct of any injudicious action at che present time. Moreover, had Mr McDonalds resolution been carried as urgently pressed by Mr Dargaville the meeting would have been asking Government to do precisely what the company do not want.

Mr John Knox announces that he has received instructions from Mrs Ross-WattSr-to 'dispose of her bouiebold furniture on the l#.h July. '
