PATE RANG I CHEESE FACTORY.

Tim settlers in the Paterangi district lia\c been moving in the matter of establishing .1 cheesu lactory for some time past, and have at length completed the necessary preliminary airangements for starting. The share, list is nearly tilled up, and the piovisional directois have purchased the complete plant ordered by Capt. Runciman for the Te Awanmtu factory, and sabsequpntly sold to Mr J. 0. Filth, who, however, has determined to proceed on the Cheddar system, and has therefote no use ior the American plant. The site chosen for the new fac tory is admirably adaj ted for the purpose. It is on Mr Allan Scott's land, opposite Clare's corner, and at the juno tion of the Ohaupo, Alexandia, and Te Rahu roads. The buddings will be elected forthwith, and as the machinery is immediately available there is nothing to prevent operations commencing in tho early spnug. The company will be worked on the co-operative principle, that is to say they will not purchase the milk from the settlers as is done at the Te Awamutu factory, but will make the cheese for the suppliers, charging a certain percentage therefor, which will be deducted fiom the amount of cheese manufactured. This is the plan followed in some of the largest factories in Canada and the United States with success. Whether it will be found to work in this district it is of course impossible to say as yet, but there gau be no doubt that its provisions are perfectly just and fair. The only doubt existing in our minds is as to whether ot the outset the farmers will be content to wait so long for their money. In all other respects we teel confident of the success of the factory, the management of -which has fallen into excellent hands.
