It is now stated that the Victotian loan has been postponed until ne\t Mon day, and that tenders will bo opened in London on the 3rd July. The Argus to-day publishes an outline of the new defenec scheme, and states that it is pioposed to disband the Volunteers, and establish a Volunteer Militia of 1500 men. It is also intended to obtain sc\eral officers and sergeants from England to c^ntiol the foice, the total strength of which, in cavalry and in fantry, engineers and artillery will be 2GOO. The Jrgui, in a leading article to-day, considers the action of the Victoria Go- \ eminent in regard to the proposed | nmiuxiitiun of the New Hebrides bome\v!i \t premature, and calculated to defeat the, ends in view.
