« Wednesday.— [Before their Honours Chief Judge Macdjnald and T U^K C Puckey.] Tatua West, Hipirini TE Wiietc claimed on his own account, and on that of the hapus Ngutitama, Ngatitapore of Ngatama, Ngatiand Ngatipakau, and stated that his was the first application, and his the first made map, and that both Tatua West and Tatua East were primarily surveyed by him. The court decided that the counterclaimants should be heard in the following order :— H. Simmonds, Aperahama te Kumo, HamioraMangakahia, Hepiiinito Whetu, and Panapi te Nihotahi (represented by Mr Hay). Eureti te I'oko of Ngititiokarcre gave sworn e\ idencc, and claimed from anc.'otry and occupation. His grandparents hal permanently occupied the land, and he had continued the occupation till now. The evidence of this witness and his cross-examination by the other claimants lasted the remainder of the day. Thursday. The Court adjourned immediately after opening, to allow the natives to make arrangements among themselves.
