DUNEDIN, Thursday.
The revenue collected at the Custom House. Dunedin, during the month ended May 31, amounted to £31,499 19a sd. The gold duty was £124G Gs lOd, and the beer duty £1129 ss. At the inquest on the man Cnnoca, who was burned at Aynsley s Hotel, Mosgiel, a verdict of " accidental death " was returned. Vickcs, who escaped from gaol, was captured this afternoon. Vickes was hiding in the fern at Mulloekey Gully, nearly 20 miles from Dunedin. The constable covered him with a revolver, and he offered no resistance. Last Night. A six-roomed house at Kaikorai was burned down this morning. It was valued at £200, and insured for £100 in the Standard office, and £160 in the Scottish Imperial. It was unoccupied, and the owner, George Moran, lived on the adjoining section. The police are making enquires.
