CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday.
A meeting of the promoters of the Moorhonse memoiial was held to-day. It was stated that L 765 have been promised. It was decided to request Messrs. Miles Bros., of London, to confer with the London Committee. Sir J. Vogel, and Messrs. E. Staffoid and Walter Kennedy, to ascertain to what artist the execution of the statue had better be entrusted, and the propable cost of the work. It is not intended to expend more than LlOOO. Last Night. A steerage passenger named Jas. Reed, from Dunedin, this morning , was found dead in bed on the s>fc amer Wan.ika. At the quarterly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce it was resolved to urge the Government to further the proposed Colonial Exhibition in London.
