WELLINGTON, Last Night.
It is understood that among the Government measures to be introduced this session, will be a bill to amend the law relating to bills of exchange, by assimilating the New Zealand practice to that of Great Britain. The New Zealand Shipping Company have received cable advice that the S.S. lonic left the Cape of Good Hope on the 20th hist. She may, therefore, be expected to arrive here during the second week in June. A man named Edward Hughes, who recently served a long sentence in Dunedin for burglariously entering a jeweller's shop in Christchurch, has been arrested on a charge of pawning a diamond ring, knowing it to be stolen property. It is believed that .the ring formed a portion of the property stolen in Christchurch several years ago. The Wellington City Advance and Deposit Company have declared a dividend of 15 per cent.
