C. IWgcr. TIIE object of the Company is to provide tonage suitable to the growing trade of the Port of Auckland, so that the imports and exports of our city may be as much as possible carried in locally owked vessels, and the shipping business carried on by a purkia* local company. The rates of freights current in this colony compare most favourable with those ruling in neighbouring colonies, and are as a rulo sufficiently remunerative to leave a goodprofit, trading hence either foreign or intercolonial. The acknowledged daily increasing commercial importance of Auckland is n source of gratification, and the shipping trade, under skilful management and with sufficient capital, would meet With speedy and great development with many parts of the World with which we arc at present not in absolutely direct communication. The object of this Company is to provide \csscls to trado in the directions already opened, and ofchcis which may from time to time oflor inducements. There is ample room for a well-orga-nised new line between Auckland and London, Liverpool find Glasgow, with Mew Yoi k, and m ith some of the larger centres of Continental European trade. Of cotnse, th« lai grand increasing export of b.ilk and fawn timber will form an important adjunct. A trade with Tasmania, .Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, &c, being already established, could easily be continued with regularity, whilst the Newcastle and Groj mouth co il trades should bo also provided for. There ia a vast field in prospective for a good trade with America, Mauritius, China, Manila, Calcutta, the Capo, Noumea, and numerous foreign ports, with some of which, even at the picsent moment, a profitable direct trade is being fan ted on in a desultory manner, and which would find support from the new industries lately established here and in prospective establishment. The Company do not propose to limit themselves to running their own vessels, but will from time to time charter vessels when required, in the event of their own not being immediately available. Messrs. Stone Bros., who have for some time carried on a good shipping business, and who have now fairly started ti new London line, possess the nucleus of a ficot suitable for commencing operations, and arrangements have been made to take over their vessels and tho good-will of their shipping business for the sum of thirty thousand six hunched and fifty pounds (£30,650), they taking half the amount in Company's shares. Their fleet consisting of 8 vessels, yith aggregate tonnage of 2642 tons, should be augmented as soon as possible, so that tho business may be extended without delay, eppcciaUy the London and American branches. The services of Mr C. B. Stone, as mann^ing director, and the staff at presoiU. under \\U control, who are experienced In this line of business, have been seuurud to take, office under the new Company. It is further proposed that the working expenses should be conducted on strictly economical principles, the expenseof agencies and branches to bs defrayed out of commissions on the actual freights earned by those branches. The nroposctt capital ia set down at £150,000 but as only a small portion is required at present for the purchase of the existing fleet and contingent expenses, further capital will not be called up until vessels suitable for the London and other trades may offer for salj at reasonable prices, until \\hich time it is proposed to charter vessels as required to supplement the present fleet. It is proposed to invite all Auckland business-men and all who may have any interest in the trade of our port to take Shares in this local Company, and to give the undertaking every possible support. The Company would thus be in a measure self-supporting, and strong enough to compete most successfully with any outside or foreigu company or forcipn shipping, The Company could then not fail to he a credit to our port, and a most lucrative investment to Shareholders. The promoters having every confidence in the success of the" undertaking, now appeal to the public to insure it by sub-f-eribing frcly for Shares. LIST OF VESSELS. Tons Register. fidently be anticipated. i VT O T ICE.
