IRO TI'.M, : J. C. Berber. The object of the Company is to provide tonage suitable to the growing trade of the Port of Auckland, so that the imports and expoits of our city may be as much as possible carried in locally owned vessels, and the shipping business carried ou by a purkly loiul company. The rates of freights ourrent in this colony compaie most fa\ourable with those ruling in nciglibnurimr colonies, and are as a rule sufficiently remunerative to leave a good prolit, trading hence either 'foreign or intercolonial. The acknowledged daily increasing commercial importance of Auckland is a source of gratification, and the shipping trade, under skilful management and with sufficient capital, would meet with speedy and great development with many parts of the World \\ ith v> hich we are at present not in absolutely direct communication. The object of this Company is to provide vessels to trade in the directions already opened, und others which may from time to time offer inducement:}. There is ample room for a well-orga-nised new lino between Auckland and London, Liverpool and Glasgow, with New Yoik, and with some of the laiger centres of Continental European trade. Of course, the large and increasing export of balk and sawn timber will form an impoitant adjunct. A trade with Tasmania, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, &c. , being already established, could easily bo continued with regularity, whilst tho Newcastle and Grey mouth coal trades should be also provided for. There is a vast field iv prospective for a good trade with America, Mauritius, China, Manila, Calcutta, the Cape, Noumea, and numerous foieign ports, with some of which, even at the present moment, a profitable diiect trade is being carried on in a desultory manner, and which would find support from the new industries lately established here and in prospective establishment. The Company do not propose to limit themselves to runuing their own vessels, but will from tune to time charter Vessels when required, in tho ovent of their own not being immediately available. Messrs. Stone Bros., who have for some timo carded ou a good shipping business, and who have now fairly started a new London line, possess the nucleus of a fleet suitable for commencing operations, and arrangements have been made to take over their vessels and the good-will of their shipping business tor the sum of thirty thousand six hunched and fifty pounds (£30.630), they taking half the amount in Company's s>hares. Their fleet consisting of 8 vessels, *ith aggregate, tonnage of 2G42 tons, should be augmented a<s soon as possible, so that tho 'busineßi may be extended without delay, especially the London and American branches. The services of Mr C. B. Stone, as managing director, and tho stafF at present under Im control, who are experienced in this line ot business, have lven secured to take oilice under the new Company. It is further proposed that the working expenses should be conducted on stiictly economical pi inciplcS), the expense of agencies and branches to be defrayed out of commissions on the actual freights earned by those branches. The proposed capital is set down at £150,000 but as only a small portion is required at present for the purchase of the existing fleet and contingent expenses, further capital will not be called up until vessels suitable for the London and other trades may offer for sale at reasonable prices, until which time it is proposed to chatter vessels as required to supplement the present fleet. It is proposed to invite all Auckland business-men and all who may have any interest in the trade of our port to take Shares in this local Company, and to give the undertaking every possible support. The Company would thus be in a measure self-supporting, and ' strong enough to compete most .successfully with any outside or foreign company or foreign shipping. The Company could then not fail to be a credit to our port, and a most lucrative investment to Shareholders. The promotei s having every confidence in the success of the undertaking, now appeal to the public to insure it by subscribing freely for Shares. LIST OF VESSELS. Tons Register. These figures serve to show that with a larger fleet, extended business, and more capital, substantial dividends may confidently be anticipated,
