Tin; object of the Company is to provide tonage suitable to the growing trade of the Poit of Auckland, so that the impoits and evpoits of our city may be as much as possible carried in locally owxjcd vkiskls, and the shipping business carried on by a vitjikly local oomimnv. Theiates of freights ciuient in this colony compare moat fa\ouiable with those, ruling in neighbouring 1 colonies, and are as a rule sufficiently lemuneiative to leave a good pi ofit, trading hence either foieign or intercolonial. The acknowledged daily inci easing commercial importance of Auckland is a source of gratilicition, and the shipping trade, under skilful management and with sufficient capital, would meet with speedy and gieat development with many parts of tho 'World m ith m hich we are at present not in absolutely diiect communication, The object of this Company is to provide vessels to trade in tho directions already opened, and others which may from time to time offer inducements, There is ample room for a well-orga-nised new line between Auckland and London, Liverpool and Glasgow, with Few Yoi k, and with «ome of the laiger centies of Continental European tiade. Of comse, the laigeand increasing export of bilk and sawn timber will form an impoitant adjunct. A trade with T.i sman k, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, &c, being aheady established, could easily be continued with regularity, whilst the Newcastle and Gre\ mouth coil trades should be also piovided for. There is a vast field in [prospective for a good tiade with America, Mauritius, China, Manila, Calcutta, the Cape, Noumea, and uumeious foieign poits, with some of which, even at the piesent moment, a profitable direct tiade is being fan ied on in a desultory manner, and wh'uh would find suppoit ftotn the new ind^tiies lately established here and in p ospeethc establishment. The Company do not propose to limit themselves to nuiniug their own vessels, but will from time to time charter vessels when required, in the event of their own not being immediately available. Messrs. Stone Bros., who have for some time carded on a good shipping business, and a\ ho have now fairly started a new London line, possess the nucleus of a fleet suitable for commencing op^iations, and arrangements have; been made to take over their vessels and tho good-will of their shipping business for tho sum of thirty thousand m.v hundred and fifty pounds (£3O G-">0), they taking half Iho amount in Company's sh.ires. Their fleet consisting of 8 vessels, aggregate tonnage of 2(ii2 toni, should be augmented as soon as possible, so fiat the business may be extended without delay, especially the London and American bionchcs. The services of Mr C. B. Stone, as managing diiector, and the staff at present under his control, who are exp'jiienced in this line of business, have b en secured lo take office under the new C^Miranv. It is further proposed that the working expenses should be conducted on stiictly economical piinciples, the expense of agencies and blanches to be defiayed out of commissions on the actual freights earned by those branches. The proposed capital is set down at €100,000 but as only a small portion is required at present for the purchase of the existing ileet and contingent expenses, futther capital will not be called up until vessels suitable for the London and other trades may offer for sale at reasonable pi ices, until which time it is proposed to charter vessels as required to supplement the present fleet. It is proposed to invite all Auckland business-men and all who may have any interest in the tiade of our port to take Shares in this local Company, and to give the undertaking every possible support. The Company would thus be in a measure self-supporting, and strong enough to compete most successfully with any outside or foreign company or foreign shipping. The Company could then not fail to be a credit to our port, and a most lucrative investment to Shareholders. The promoters having every confidence in the success of the undertaking, now appeal to the public to insure it by subscribing freely for Shares. LIST OF VESSELS. Tons Register. These figures serve to show that with a larger fleet, extended business, and more capital, substantial dividends may coufidQntly be. aQj4oiniited,
