TUESDAY, APRIL 17, ISSJ.

The new policy of the Education Board, a? indicated by Mr Laishley on his election to the chairmanship of that body, has already shown itself in the board referring the Cam bridge drainage question to the local committee 1 for them to settle with the town board. As an instance of the absurdity of the old course pursued by the board in arrogating to itself the almost exclusive right to deal with questions of a purely local nature, we might take the communication which the chairman of the town board received from the Board of Education through their solicitors recently, and which we published in those columns on Thursday last. This communication took the shape of an injunction cautioning the board to refrain from completing the drainage works through the education reserve, which they had undertaken, until the trial of the cause before his Honour Judgo Gillies. This action, it will bo remembered, was taken in direct contravention of the wishes of the local committee, who had inspected and reported favourably on the work. There is little doubt, had the Education Board persisted in the course upon which they had entered, they would have put the town to much unnecessary expense by having the cause adjudicated upon in court, and we fail to see where any public good could have resulted ; no matter what the decision. Local questions of this nature can be best decided by those who reside on the f>pot, and who from their knowledge and experience regarding the matter at issue are best able to form an opinion.
