William Forman, formedy captain of the schooner Julius Vogel, and latterly secondjinate of the Government steamer Stella, was this afternoon committed for trial on two charges, one ot forgery and the other of embezzlement. The em-, bezzlement is alleged to have taken place in his tendering accounts to Mr Compton,' owner of the Julius Vogel, and the forgery by attaching another person's name to a receipt to whom Forman stated he had paid money, whereas lie had not. Mr Shaw, who contests tlie Inangahua, seat, -will be unable to proceed to Reef ton until tlie closing of the criminal sessions of the Supreme Court, which commences on Monday. Mr Robert Graham and Col. Fraser, Mayor of the Thames, Avaited on the Minister for Public Woiks and the Minister lor Lands yesterday morning as a deputation from the Thames Valley Railway Company, their object being to securo a promise from Government of certain lands under the Railways Construction Act. Ministers , pointed out that the lands in question were not yet the property of Government, and appeared uuwilling to' give any, pledges regarding them. The deputation stated that they were willing to guarantee expenditure upon 1 the Works, land/ in the same proportion as had been accepted from the Taiuuuga Railway Company. No cone'usion was come to, the deputation undertaking to put their requirements in writing, and a further interview will take place;aftor the Ministers have considered them.
