RAGLAN RACES.

Presj4ent:Mr H. Hrcttargh. Judge: Mr T f Wilfcon, s'cnr. i Clerk of the Course: Mr Wi H.irlow. St.irtej-: Mr S. Wilson. Stewards-:? Messrs C. Gilmour, Herdson. Johnston, Kanaka and Newton. Owing to the wet weather the races had to be postponed, from, the 16th,tq the 17th mat. On tliafday'tho' 1 weather w»s everything that could be desired, and the Raglan Jockey Club again managed to hold a very, successful race meeting. After paying prize money, 'and settling all other expenses incurred, they have still a very substantial cash balance, and their affairs may be said to be in a prospering condition. Mr R. C. Mathiasstill continues to maintain his well-teamed'and creditable reputation as an lion, secretary; and the club may do worse than .keep him in that office. Some unpleasant opposition was made by the native owners of the course, previous to the starting of the first race. It had reference to the right of the club to use it at all for the purpose intended.' It was a pity that anything should have happened to martheproceedmga, ami 1 the club did not show their usual discretion in not having had this trouble settled pridr to the 17th inst. The difficulty was, however, at last overcome, and an excellent day's faffing took place.
