A number of ( steerage passengers by the steamer British King' have sent a letter to the local newspapers, complaining of the treatment they received during the voyage., Both papers refused to publish the letter, on the ground' that it was libellous, and that the passengers had their redress by law if they wished to do so. Against this may be mentioned that a ,very fluttering testimonial was presented to the.captain and oilicprs 'of the, steamer by a large number of steerage passengers, thanking then; for .the courtesy and treatment leceivecl during the entire voyage. No complaints whatever have been lodged witli the agents of the vessel. Two seah)en, named v Evans < and Oolville, have been arrested here, on a charge of larceny from the Commercial Hotel, Wellington. A meeting of creditors in the estate of Henry. (^acoj.jjWas held ,to-day. The liabilities' are' £15,142, and "the assets £23,493. Messrs Macdonald and Kirton were appointed trustees. Considerable sympathy is expressed for the insolvent, whostf losses 1 are attributed to land speculations.
