DEPUTATIONS TO MAJOR ATKINSON.

Major Atkinson* has received a deputation fioin the City Council asking for the Provincial Government buildings to be given to the city, which has few endowments. He promised the earnest attention of the Government. The Work-ing-niens' Political As&ociation also interviewed. Major Atkinson re the nationali- ; sation of the land, colonial industries, free immigration, eight hours' labor on the railway, etc., abolition of the Upper' House and triennial Parliaments. Major Atkinson pointed out that the, national principle was'b'eirig tested itndev'tne Act passed lasf; sessiqn, He said Government were anxious to foster colonial industries, which were progressing everywhere. Free immigration was not, likely 1 to be resumed. He thought eight hours a fair' day's -work. , He was in ( favour of an' , elective Upper House, but could not commit his colleagues. The Parliaments should sit neither i for more or less than three years.
