PATEA, Last Night.

On .Saturday morning an alarming subsidence occurred on the railway works near the Heads. Coming round tho cliff beside the river, the line h carried across the swamp on a high trestles. These suddenly sank to a depth of some IS feefe, the weight of the embankment having apparently broken through the crust of the swamp, and bulged it out on either side. Some delay will be caused to the opening of the line, and the damage will exceed £200.
