At young native, named Te Puni, 'aged '25, attempted suicide at Petone, List night, in a novel manner. He fastened a ropo louiul his neck with a loop, and the other end he fastened to, his foot. He then endeavoured to tighten the rope round his neck by a series of jerks with 'his foot. His hi other entered the rtfom and cat the rope. To Puni was arrested, and has been committed to the asylum, to \\ liich institution his brother was committed only a day or two ago.

LYTTELTON, Tuesday. H.M. Corvette Diamond, 1970 tons, Captain Alfred T. Dale, arrived at Lyttelton this afternoon, after a passage of , nine days from Hobart. She was in company with' the Espicgic' during the voyage till off Lyttelton, when the, Espiegle went onto Welling ton,; aiid'the Diamond aiipnored, pff .Camp Bay, and will remain at Lyttelton for a week, and then proceed to Wellington.
