CAMBRIDGE TOWN BOARD.

Tin: adjourned special and ordinary meetings of the above board were held at the board oihce on Fnday evening last. Thcic were picscnt : Cis. Wells (chairman). Hewitt and Johnson. Tow v V.va 7 vtoij. — The business of the special meeting consisted of the appointment of town valuator for the ensuing year, leguuling which the following resolutions were passed : — On the motion of Cr. Johnson seconded by Cr. Hewitt, it was unanimously resolved, " That tins ))Oiird desires to maUe its own valuation of the rateable property of its district, aa authorised by section 11 of the Rating Act, 1883." On the motion of Cr. Jolmaon seconded by Cr. Jfewitt, " That application for the extension of time, as provided by section 53, Rating Act, 18S2, in which to give the necessary notice of the former resolution to the Commissioner, be applied for." Ordinary Business. The ordinary business was then pioeecded with. Town Valuator.— lt was agreed that a meeting le the resolutions passed at the special meeting, be held on Monday tour weeks, the same to be the usual monthly meeting. Tin: W'atkk SriTLV.— The Chairman read the correspondenco on the matter of the £3000 loan for the pioposed scheme of water supply. The application for the money had been laid before the Public Trust Board, Wellington. The board, however, did not deum it ad\ i snide to grant the loan, but had decided to lefcr the application to the Commissioner of Government Insurance. A telegraphic communication had been received horn the Commissioner of Government Insurance on the matter to the effect that the Department which he represented was disposed to consider the application. The poll on the Avatcr supply question having had of a negative effect the chairman said of couise nothing more could be done in the matter, and they might inform the Commissioner of the Department referred to of the fact. All to be done now in the matter was that after receiving Mr Ellington's report those parties who had guaranteed his expenses should be called upon to ].ay the gums opposite their names. LocAt Drainage. — A letter was received from Mr Jno. Arnold re the drainage at the lower qud of Brewery-street, which was very inefficient. Unless , arrangements were made immediately by the board for carrying off the surplus fritter from Brewery-street and Victoriajl^eet he would bo compelled to take B<eps to force the board to do so. Referring to the matter set forth in Mr Arnold's letter, the chairman explained to the meeting that consideration of it had been deferred over two meetings to enable the two absent commissioners to be present. They had not, however, attended, and it was for those present to say, what action should be taken. — Cr. Johnson proposed, and Cr. Hewitt seconded "That the tender of Mann and Dillon for enlargement of main drain, &c., &c., £99, be accepted." carried unanimously. Cr. Kirk wood's Resignation.— Cr. Kirkwood sent iin his resignation as a member' 1 of the board. Mr Kirkwood, liowever, having failed to attend the three , previous general meetings of the , board, his term of office would have ceased on Friday night, notwithstanding Jijs resignation. ■> > , 'i Kakamko Bridge.— Mr , Hosking^ .the board's engineer,' reported that the bridge wfts now completed, with the exception of the earthworks.
