TIMARU, Last Night.
A sad fatality occuned he,ie yesterday. William Million, aged 15, <i son of Mi" Million, schoolmaster at Otaio, was accidentally drowned while bathing at Saltwater Creek. Two companions tried to rescue him but wore unsuccessful. The police, on being informed, dragged the creek and recovered the body in an hour. A iive-roomed cottage at Otipua was burned this moiniug. The Mayor ordered out the brigade, but they arrived too late. It is supposed to have originated in logs falling Irom the fire-place. The house was occupied by J. Russell, foreman of the tannery adjoining, and the owner was 'Capt. Sutler. A few articles of furniture were saved, but the house was totally destroyed. Insurances : — House, £150 (Royal) ; furniture, £80 (Standard).
