CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Tun cabmen have refused to pay the extra £1 license, and have been ordered from their stands. They paraded the streets and then took the vehicles home. The cabstands arc now empty. C. E. Dudley, late town clerk at Kaiapoi, was brought up at the Kaiapoi R.M. Court to-day, and called upon, under the Municipal Corporations Act, to produce the missing books, etc. The case has been adjourned. The nominations for the Lytteltou Harbour Board to-day were :—Chvistchurch, R. E. Allen, J. P. McPherson, A. C. Wilson; Sydenham, A. White; St. Albans, C. R. Blakiston; Lyttelton, Owen, John/C Merson.
WELLINGTON, Last Night. Three female prisoners escaped from Wellington gaol this afternoon. Two ol them are named Dobie and the other Douglas. The former were only recently sent to prison for passing bad coin, while the latter was committed for trial for housc-bieaking and stealing wearing apparel. The prisoners effected their escape by placing a torm against the wall and during the absence of the warder they scaled it. The police are out searching m nil directions. A proclamation in the Gazette further prorogues Parliament until 16th of April next. No information has been received by Government as to the progress of affairs at Kawhia. A number of Chinese residents in Wellington have subscribed £40 towards the Wellington Hospital, and a deputation will wait on the hon. the Colonial Secretary on Thursday to hand the money over. Heavy rain set in last night, and continued throughout the day without intermission. It was much needed. Young Ray, of Carterton, died yesterday from the injuries received when Comus fell with him in the Consolation Race at Taratahi races on the 22nd ult.
WHANGAREI, Last Night. Mr Cornish, a highly-respected resident for many years, committed suicide by drowning himself in a tank adjoining his house. Cornish a few weeks ago experienced a sunstroke. A disastrous fire took place at 2 o'clock yesterday morning. Bell's store (in which it originated), Buckhurst's clothing establishment, Jackson's boardinghouse, and Hanson's cook-shop were completely destroyed.

Brown, of Tarawera, having made an average"of twenty miles per day from Napier to Taupo. Wright and party left on Saturday to survey a line of road from Taupo to Tokano. Kiugi Hiru Kerei ami other obstructionists have left for Patea.
WANGANUI, Last Night. On Saturday afternoon a harvest j labourer named Henry Mead was drowned in the lake at Waitotara "while bathing. The body has not yet been recovered.
DUNEDIN, Last Night. Dalgetty and Co. have received cable advice that the meat shipped by the New South Wales Frozen Meat Company, per Garonue, arrived in good order. The prices realised were, beef, o^d ; mutton, 6id.' The market was weak, owing to there being large quantities of meat afloat.i ' \ '
