I A compromise has been effected between the Government and, the committee appointed by the Chamber of Deputies to consider the question of the expulsion from France of the members of the dynastic fannlies._ The clause of the Bill providing for cashcring of Imperialist and loyalist families from the army has been adopted, and it ha"s been agreed that the exeiciso of public functions by them shall be interdicted, the question of expulsion being left to the discretion of the Government. Admiral J. Jaurequiberry, has, however, resigned the seat in the Cabinet. The' debate on the Bill takes place on Monday.

London, January 26. Sir Alexander Gait, High Commissioner for Canada, delivered a lecture Mn Edinburgh las>t night on the subject of colonial fedpiation. He pointed out that the colonies are a growing power, and may become' discontented with the present regime". ' He strongly advocated Imperial federation under the system adopted in Germany. 'The death is announced of Herr Yon ITlotow, the German musician, aged 7 1. Intelligence to hand from the Continent show* that Earl Granville's proposals for the settlement of allairs in Egypt have been received with favour at the Austrian, German, Italian, and Russian Courts. Two men have been arrested on a charge of assassinating Mr Field, the jtuyman in Hyde's case, in November. A witness of the outrage has indentified the assailant. The case lias -been adjourned for a week. The refrigerating chambers of the steamship Garonne were opened to-day and the cargo of frozen meat was found in excellent condition.
