The latter favours the drastic treatment of the Bonapartist and Orleauisfc pretenders.
Pakis, January 24. , The Ex-Einpless E ugenie, haying succeeded in re uniting the Bohapartist party, returned to-day to London. A special to the Press Association,, received at twenty minutes to one o'clock this morning, and dated London January 25, says :— M. Grcvy is urging a re-union of the French Ministry.
[Received January 25, 10.p.m.] Oaiko, January 24. Sir Auckland Colviu, who recently resigned his position as British ControllerGeneral of Egyptian finance, has been offered and has accepted the post of Financial Adviser to the Egyptain Government. '
London, January 24, The election for the vacancy in the representation of Mallow, Ireland, in the House of Commons took place' to-day aud resulted in the return of Mr. OBrien, the Nationalist candidate, who defeated the other candidate, an avowed Government supporter, by a cosiderable majority. Mr T. M. Healey, M.P. for Wexford, and Messrs 'Michael Davitt and Quinn, the leaders of the Irish National League, who were summoned last month for making seditious speeches, have been again brought up for trial. The case closed to-day, and the defendants were required to find heavy bail that they would keep the peace, ov else undergo six months' imprisonment each.
Constantinople, January 24. It has transpired th.it communications have recently passed between the Porte and the French Government; regarding the circular note issued to the Great Powers, on the loth instant by the English Government, in which it explained its intentions with regard to Egypt. It is now understood that the Ottoman Government are preparing to protest against the policy avowed by England, and have received assurance of support by the French Government, from their representatives at Stamboul.
Rate of Discount. Londox, January 25. The Bank of England have, this clay, reduced the rate of discount from five to four per cent.
