THE PROPOSED HAMILTON BOROUGH DRAIN AGE SCHEME.
The polling to determine whether the sum of £2,500 should be borrowed for the purpose -of carry ing^out ,a scheme of drainage' fdr ,tlie_.bprough,_ or notf 'was taken yesterday. Very little interest was, manifested in the event, and that little was shown, by the opponents to ? the measure, who,- as will be seen, carried their point. The act requires that the number of votes in favour of a borrowing proposal shall be equal to one-half the number of ratepayers on t|ie roll, and as the total of those who voted would represent this number, "the proposal was of course negatived.
